Buy a complete pool or build your pool from scratch?

Yes, it is a matter of personal taste, of course. But many people don't even know that they have a choice when it comes to a pool.

Having a saltwater pool has become more and more popular in recent years. Many feel that the water feels softer and that there is less maintenance. But there are a few things to consider before you decide.

If you want to customize your pool, you can of course choose to build it from scratch.

Excavation and groundwork must then be carefully carried out. Walls and the base slab are built on site using edge elements, reinforcement mesh, and concrete. But this requires a lot of work and takes a long time. And it is not something you should do yourself, even if you are handy.

Another option is to buy a complete pool from the start. It is delivered as a whole shell that is lowered with a crane into a hole in the ground. Some work must of course be done before and after. But the installation time is much shorter and the work is not as demanding. If you are used to building, it is something you can do yourself.

Plan to get all parts at the same time

When you order a complete pool, suppliers often offer different package solutions. It is a good idea to take a look at them before you decide. And the better you have thought through the whole and put together your package with all the details, the faster you will have the pool ready for swimming.

Much can already be assembled and prepared in the pool shell itself when it is delivered. Outlets, inlets, lights, and stairs can already be in place. In addition, the entire machine room, with sand filter, pool heat pump, and automated chlorine and purification systems, can be delivered ready at the same time as the pool.

If you want a pool cover or other enclosure, it is also nice to have it in place right away. So discuss all the details with your pool supplier and get help putting together a complete package. Then you will be finished faster once the pool has arrived.

Preparation before delivery

Some things do need to be done before the pool is delivered. For example, a hole must be dug that the pool can be lowered into. If the ground is sandy or the groundwater is high, a base slab may need to be cast. In addition, a prepared place for the filter and pump is required near the pool.

.

To get this preliminary work done, many hire someone to dig, remove soil, create a bearing layer, and ensure proper drainage at the bottom. But of course, you can also do this yourself if you are used to building.

Do you need a large or a small crane?

When the finished pool shell is delivered, it will be lowered into the hole with the help of a crane truck. Therefore, it is good to consider where the truck can stand and how accessible the location is where you want the pool. Can the crane truck get onto the property? And if it must be placed outside... how far in does the crane then need to reach? Is a large or small crane truck required? Discuss with the supplier, who is used to finding solutions.

AfterworkWhen the pool is in place, it must be connected and the space around the pool walls must be filled with crushed stone and concrete as the water fills in. So there is still a bit of work involved in getting a pool. But with a complete pool

that is lifted into place, it is significantly less work and goes much faster than if you build it from scratch.

  • Things to consider when ordering a complete pool:
  • Check the groundwater level and soil conditions
  • Contact help if needed for excavation and casting of the base slab
  • Prepare space for filter and pump
  • Discuss location for crane truck and accessibility on the property with the supplier
  • Order all pool details at the same time so they can be pre-assembled

Order sand filter, pump, etc. for the machine room
