Condensation on pool enclosure – normal or something to fix?

Pooltime · Pool enclosure & maintenance

Drops on the inside of a pool enclosure are often condensation from the warm, humid air above the pool. Here, you can see how to distinguish surface condensation from rain ingress and moisture inside the multiwall polycarbonate.

Why does condensation form under the pool enclosure?

The pool water gives off water vapour. When the humid air meets a sufficiently cold panel, some of the vapour condenses into small water droplets. This can be more noticeable on cool nights and mornings, especially when the pool is kept warm.

Condensation therefore does not in itself mean that the enclosure is leaking. At the same time, recurring water in the same unexpected place should be investigated. Start by checking whether the moisture is on an accessible surface, inside the material's channels, or at a joint.

Droplets on the underside of the panel Condensation from the air above the pool. Note the temperature, time of day, and whether it decreases when the enclosure is ventilated under supervision.

How to handle condensation

  1. Follow the enclosure's ventilation options. Ventilation when someone is supervising the pool can reduce the amount of humid air under the enclosure. Use the openings and settings described by the manufacturer.
  2. Review the temperature and covering. High water temperature relative to the surroundings affects the moisture load. Check whether a separate cover on the water surface is suitable together with your enclosure model.
  3. Keep the intended drainage paths clear. Remove leaves and dirt from accessible grooves and surfaces according to the care instructions. Do not create your own drainage holes.
  4. Clean gently. Use only products and tools approved for the panel material. Abrasive sponges and unsuitable solvents can damage the surface.

Keep the protective function: do not leave doors or sections open to ventilate an unattended pool. Close and secure the enclosure according to the manufacturer's instructions when the pool is not in use.

Moisture in multiwall polycarbonate needs to be assessed separately

Multiwall polycarbonate has cavities inside the panel. Moisture there cannot be dried out from the outside and should not be confused with droplets on the inner surface. Photograph the panel's channels, edges, and profiles. Note whether the problem occurs in several panels or only in one section.

Do not remove tape, plugs, or seals on your own initiative. Their function may be both to protect and to control the material's ventilation. The supplier needs to determine whether the design is correct and whether any part should be addressed.

When should you contact the supplier?

Seek help if water repeatedly gets in at the same attachment point, if panels or profiles appear damaged, or if moisture inside the material is followed by discolouration. Send the model name, year of installation, and photos. Describe whether it happens in rain, cold, or only when the pool is heated.

If you are planning a new enclosure, you can compare materials and construction among our pool enclosure. At the same time, ask for guidance on ventilation, maintenance, and how much space is needed when the enclosure is opened.

Frequently asked questions

Is condensation on the inside a sign of a fault?

Not in itself. Warm, humid air can cause droplets on colder panels. Where the moisture is and when it occurs determine what should be checked.

Can clear panels also get condensation?

Yes. Condensation can form on a cold surface whether the panel is clear or made of multiwall polycarbonate. Moisture inside the channels is, however, a separate observation.

Should I drill holes to let the moisture out?

No, do not modify panels or profiles without explicit instructions from the manufacturer. An incorrect measure can affect both function and sealing.
