UV treatment – features and uses

UV treatment complements pool filtration and disinfection by passing circulating water through a UV unit. It can help produce clearer water and add another treatment stage, but it does not replace proper filtration or balanced water parameters.

Effectiveness depends on keeping the water flow within the unit's recommended range. Excessive flow can reduce contact time, while an unnecessarily large unit cannot compensate for poor circulation or chemical imbalance.

Choose the right UV treatment for your pool

Check the connection size, maximum flow rate, lamp power, installation orientation and available servicing space. Position the unit according to the manufacturer's flow diagram and plan for lamp replacement without difficult dismantling.

Installation and routine care

Check and maintain the quartz sleeve and UV lamp at the specified service intervals. Disconnect the power before servicing and follow the instructions for draining and winter shutdown.

Water flow, pool volume and materials

A UV unit treats the water passing through its chamber, so it must be selected for both the pool volume and circulation flow rate. Check the manufacturer's operating range; a higher flow does not automatically mean better treatment. UV treatment must be part of a complete system with effective filtration and controlled disinfection in the pool itself.

The range includes Pahlén Puriq, Pahlén Auto-UV titanium and Brilix SP. Material choice is especially important for salt-chlorinated pools. The Brilix SP product description states that it is not intended for salt water, so its suitability must not be confused with that of a titanium model.

Allow for lamp replacement and cleaning

Leave enough servicing space to remove the UV lamp and quartz sleeve as described in the manual. Check the correct replacement lamp, base and wattage for the model. Follow the unit's instructions for replacement and cleaning; a lamp that lights up does not in itself indicate how much treatment capability remains.
