Thermopool Standard

Thermopool: Construction Steps, Insulation and Common Mistakes

A thermopool is built from insulating blocks that are reinforced and filled with concrete. The result can be a stable, well-insulated pool, but quality is determined by the groundwork, reinforcement, pouring, and the details around penetrations.

Brief answer: Plan the foundation, drainage, reinforcement, and technical systems as one continuous structure before the first block is set.

1. Prepare the site and foundation

Ground conditions, groundwater, and access determine excavation and drainage. The base slab needs the correct dimensions, level, and surface for the system. Errors in the foundation carry through the entire build and are difficult to correct later.

Make room for the equipment room, piping, backfill, and a safe work area around the pool.

2. Build the walls according to the system

The blocks are assembled, reinforced, and braced according to the supplier's instructions. Skimmer, inlets, lighting, and other penetrations must be positioned and secured before pouring.

Check diagonals, plumb, and measurements at several stages. A small error can affect the liner, coping, and pool enclosure.

3. Plan the pour

Concrete quality, fill rate, and pumping must be adapted to the block system. Insufficient bracing or filling too quickly can deform the walls. Prepare a clear pouring plan together with the contractor.

Document reinforcement and penetrations before they are covered.

4. Waterproofing, liner, and technical systems

The surface must be level and clean before the liner or other finish is installed. The pipe system should be pressure-tested before backfilling and before surfaces are closed. The pump and filter are sized according to water volume, pipe length, and desired operation.

Also coordinate heating and pool cover for an energy-efficient whole.

Common mistakes

  • Insufficient drainage
  • Incorrect bracing before pouring
  • Penetrations that are not secured
  • Pipes that are not pressure-tested
  • Measurements that are not adapted to the liner and pool enclosure

Frequently asked questions

Can you build a thermopool yourself?

Some steps are suitable for an experienced DIYer, but construction, pouring, electrical work, and critical installations require the right expertise and responsibility.

Is a thermopool always energy efficient?

Insulation helps, but heat loss is also strongly affected by the water surface, the cover, the temperature, and operation.
