Pool installation: From groundworks to a finished pool

A successful pool installation starts with clear planning of the site, pool type, equipment, and responsibilities. The pool itself is only one part of the project. Foundation work, drainage, pipes, electrical, backfilling, pool enclosure and commissioning must all work together for the installation to function safely and reliably in the long term.
Pooltime can supply the pool, technology and pool enclosure, as well as help plan the installation. The scope of the installation and contracting work depends on the pool type, postal code, and the project's conditions. Everything included must be stated in the written quotation.
Pool installation step by step
1. Site analysis and placement
Check access for an excavator, truck, and possibly a crane lift. Ground levels, bedrock, groundwater, utility lines, property boundaries, and distance to the house can all affect both placement and cost. Contact the municipality if the project affects a site permit, building permit, or other local requirements.
2. Pool selection and technical solution
Choose pool type, size, steps, skimmer solution, filter, pump, heating, and pool cover. The placement of the equipment room and heat pump needs to be planned with regard to pipe lengths, service access, ventilation, and noise.
3. Excavation, drainage and foundation
The pool pit is excavated according to dimensioned documentation. Drainage, capillary-breaking layers, and foundation work are carried out for the chosen pool type. A prefabricated pool shell and a block-built pool may place different demands on the base slab, backfill, and sequence of work.
4. Delivery and assembly
PP and fibreglass pools are normally delivered as a finished pool shell that is lifted into place. A Thermopool is built on site from blocks that are reinforced and filled. Check the delivery route, lifting plan, and who is responsible for receiving and unloading.
5. Pipes, equipment and electricity
Pipes are connected between the pool, filter, pump, heating, and any automatic water treatment system. Electrical installations must be carried out in accordance with current regulations by a qualified installer. All components need to be positioned so that servicing and winter handling can be done safely.
6. Backfill and finished surface
Backfilling is carried out according to the pool supplier's instructions and is often coordinated with the water filling. After that, the pool edge, decking, or stone paving is built. Plan the fastening surface for the pool enclosure before the finished surface is completed.
7. Commissioning and walkthrough
The system is filled, air is bled, and functionality is tested. Check flow, filter, heating, water level, and any dosing systems. The customer should receive manuals, settings, and a walkthrough of normal operation, water care, and winter shutdown.
Different installation levels
| Setup | Suitable for you who | Important |
|---|---|---|
| Do some parts yourself | Have building experience and your own contractors | Boundaries of responsibility and technical requirements must be clearly defined. |
| Shared contract | Want to purchase certain stages but manage the project yourself | Decide who is responsible for the schedule and the handoffs between stages. |
| Turnkey contract | Want a more coordinated delivery | Check the exact scope, exclusions, and who the contractual party is. |

Frequently asked questions about pool installation
How long does installation take?
The time varies depending on pool type, ground conditions, weather, and the scope of the contract. A prefabricated pool shell can be installed quickly, but groundworks, backfill, and finished surfaces often determine the total time.
Can Pooltime install anywhere in Sweden?
Product delivery may cover a larger geographic area than full installation. Enter the postal code and project scope so that available installation can be confirmed in the quote.
When should the pool cover be planned?
As early as before the pool edge and decking are built. That way, the right space can be reserved for tracks, fixings, and the area where the cover will be slid away.
