Sand Filter for Pool

The basis for effective filtration

Give the pool water a filter that suits the system

A well-chosen sand filter helps capture particles as the pool water circulates. For a good purchase, the filter must suit both the pump and the space where it will be installed. At Pooltime, you can compare sand filters in several designs and choose a solution based on flow rate, connections, service space, and the filter medium the model is intended for.

Filter and pump together

Match the filter capacity to the system's actual flow rate and the pump's characteristics.

Choosing valve placement

Compare top-mounted and side-mounted options based on how the equipment room is laid out.

Planned maintenance

Choose with backwashing, access, and future replacement of filter media in mind.

Start with the flow rate, not just the pool volume

Pool volume says something about the size of the system, but the filter must also work with the pump that drives circulation. A flow rate that is too high may be unsuitable for the filter, while the conditions for backwashing must also be right. Therefore, check both the permitted filtration flow rate and the requirements for cleaning.

Pipes, level differences, and other equipment affect the flow rate the system actually receives. When you replace the pump, it is therefore wise to check the filter at the same time. A well-considered choice takes the entire circulation system into account.

Top-mounted or side-mounted valve?

The position of the valve affects piping and access. A top-mounted model needs space above it to be handled and serviced. A side-mounted model places different demands on the space beside the tank. Measure the entire work area, not just the space where the filter tank will stand.

Also check the connection dimensions, the valve design, and what is included with the product. If you plan to replace the filter medium later on, good access is an advantage whenever maintenance is needed.

Sand or filter glass – follow the model's instructions

Pooltime's sand filter collection includes models where sand or glass can be used according to the product instructions. Choose the correct grain size and amount for the specific filter; do not assume the same weight applies to different filter materials. Also follow the instructions for any layering and startup.

The range includes, among others, Pahlén Purgo Top, Pahlén Mundo, Cantabric, Millenium, Linz and Vienna-II. If you need both a pump and a filter, you can also compare our collection with pump and sand filter combinations. That gives you a clear alternative to weigh against separate components.

Frequently asked questions before your purchase

Does a pump come included when I buy a sand filter?

Not necessarily. Check the product contents. Separate sand filters and combinations with a pump are different purchases that need to be compared based on what you already have.

Can I fill the filter with filter glass?

Only if it is approved for the model. Follow the instructions for the correct material, grain size, and filling amount.

Does the sand filter replace pool chemicals?

No. Filtration captures particles, while water balance and disinfection must be managed as part of the pool's overall water treatment.
