Narrow, long and narrow pool – choose the right dimensions for your yard

Pool Guide · Design & Planning

A narrow pool can make room for both swimming and a functional garden lifestyle. Here you can compare dimensions, pool types, and the space needed around a long, narrow pool.

When is a long, narrow pool a good fit?

A elongated pool is worth considering when the plot is longer than it is wide, when you want to follow the lines of the house, or leave a continuous area for dining and lawn. Start with the use: relaxation, family swimming, or exercise swimming. It affects how much unobstructed water surface you need and where the steps should be placed.

There is no standard size that makes a pool “narrow”. Therefore, compare the pool's actual internal dimensions, clear swimming area, and external dimensions. A wide staircase, bench seat, or shallow section may be appreciated for swimming, but it takes away from the usable length.

Two models to start comparing

PP pool: 2.6 × 6 meters

Pooltime Exclusive has stated internal dimensions of 6.0 × 2.6 × 1.5 meters. It is a practical option for those looking for a narrow, rectangular swimming pool.

Plan using the external dimensions: approximately 6.316 × 2.916 meters according to the product details. Excavation and working space are additional.

Leisure Pools Linear

Linear is a rectangular glasfiberpool with a specified width of 3.3 metres. The model series is available in lengths of 6–11 metres and with a construction depth of 1.5 metres.

Measure the entire pool area

  1. Mark the shell's external dimensions. Use string or markings on site. Check the installation drawing, not just the model name.
  2. Draw in pathways and seating areas. Test where people will pass, where chairs will stand, and how the pool will be maintained.
  3. Plan the pool cover at the same time. A pool enclosure needs the right width, space for rails, and room when it is opened. The chosen model determines the dimensions.
  4. Check access. Delivery, lifting, excavation machinery, pipes, and the technical area must work even on a narrow plot.
  5. Check the ground conditions. Foundation and drainage should be designed for the site and the pool shell you choose.

Practical tip: measure the width at three points along the intended pool. Then photograph the stretch from both ends. That makes it easier to spot tight passages before the model is decided.

Narrow pool for lap swimming

For swimming, the clear length is more important than how elongated the pool looks. In a six-meter model, turns will be frequent. If you want to swim longer laps, compare longer versions or explore counter-current units for pools. Space, shell, installation, and the unit's characteristics need to work together.

What does a narrow pool cost?

Compare the entire project: shell, groundwork, foundation, installation, circulation, heating, pool cover, and surface around the pool. A smaller width does not automatically mean a cheaper finished project. Access for machinery and transport can have a major impact on the estimate.

For a clear quote, it is a good idea to send desired dimensions, photos of the plot, information about access, and how you want to use the pool. Current product price and model configuration can be found on each product page.

Frequently asked questions

Can a narrow pool work on a small plot?

Yes, if both the pool and the surrounding areas fit. For a small plot, you also need to plan for equipment, pool cover, and access. Feel free to read our guide to a pool for a small garden.

Are narrow pool and long, narrow pool the same thing?

In practice, the terms describe overlapping wishes. Narrow mainly refers to the width, while long and narrow emphasizes the proportions. Start with the dimensions and usable water area when comparing.

What measurements should I provide to Pooltime?

Specify the available length and width, the desired clear walking space, how the delivery can access the site, and whether you want a pool enclosure. Feel free to attach a simple sketch and photos.
