Funderar du på att bygga pool och undrarvad det skulle kosta?

  • Do you also dream of getting a pool for your garden?
You are not alone, many people in Sweden are considering building a pool, and several thousand pools are sold and installed in Sweden every year.

But like everything else in life, a pool comes with a cost, and in this text, we will help you clarify the concepts and provide you with more information about what it costs to build a pool and what a pool costs to maintain per month.

There are several costs associated with building and installing a pool in the garden. The total cost of the pool is influenced by several different factors. Below we will go through the costs associated with building a pool.

    Price for popular sizes

A common pool size is 3×6 meters. Read more about what a 3×6 pool costs here.

Vilka kostnader finns det vid ett poolbygge?

  • First and foremost, you have the cost of the pool itself. You also need certain accessories for the pool, such as a pool robot, pool heating, pool cleaning, pool cover, and more. In addition to this, there is also a cost for the actual installation of the pool.

If you want an in-ground pool, you need someone to help you with the excavation work and assist with the installation of the pool. If you are handy, it is of course possible to both dig and install the pool yourself, but for most people, this is not an option.

The price of the pool

  • The price of the pool itself is often a major part of the total cost. There are many different types of pools to choose from, and the price of the pool is affected by factors such as size and the material the pool is made of.

There is an old saying that goes, "it's expensive to buy cheap," and when it comes to buying a pool, it's important to keep this in mind. You want a pool that will last for many years and, of course, it should be durable and suitable for the Swedish climate.

Thermopool

  • Vad är en Thermopool?

A thermopool is constructed on site and the building process begins with pouring a concrete slab that the pool will be built on. The pool is then built up with blocks that are filled with reinforcement and concrete.

The thermopool has a lower price than, for example, a PP Pool but takes longer to install. This means that the total installation cost is usually roughly the same as if you buy a more expensive PP Pool.

If you are a tradesperson with good skills in construction and civil works you can build a thermopool yourself and thereby reduce the total cost, but if you do not intend to build it yourself it is sensible to consider buying a PP Pool instead.

  • How long does it take to build a thermal pool?

The total time to install a thermopool is somewhere between 6 – 10 weeks.

It takes about a week to excavate, lay the base/drainage and cast a concrete base slab. After this is done it then takes a couple of days to assemble the pool and fill the pool blocks with reinforcement and concrete. Once this is done you then have to wait approximately four weeks for the concrete to cure before you can use your new pool.

We at Pooltime sell both thermopools and PP Pools and always recommend the solution we consider right for your specific needs and conditions. However, we recommend that you always look at the total cost of installing your pool and not just focus on the price of the pool itself so that you get as fair a picture as possible of what the total cost will actually be.

PP Pool

  • Vad är en PP Pool?

A PP pool is made of polypropylene, a type of plastic that is durable, UV-resistant and non-toxic. The plastic polypropylene is, among other things, approved as a material for drinking water containers. Polypropylene is a homogeneous material with high durability, and a PP pool has higher strength than, for example, a thermo pool.

In addition to being built from a more durable material than a thermo pool, a PP pool also has other advantages. A PP pool tolerates temperatures above 33 degrees, which is a major benefit for those who want to enjoy swimming in a heated pool. Another advantage of a PP pool is its good insulating properties, which lower heating costs compared with other pool constructions.

  • How long does it take to build a PP pool?

A PP pool is delivered as a complete shell and arrives in one piece, which makes the installation time shorter than for, for example, a thermopool. The total time required to install a PP pool is approximately 2–3 weeks from the start of excavation until the pool is installed and ready for use.

If you have high groundwater where you live or an unstable subsoil such as sand, you first need to cast a concrete slab. If a concrete slab is required, this is done about one week before the pool is delivered, as the base slab needs to cure for around seven days. If your plot instead has a firm subsoil and not high groundwater, a bearing layer and crushed stone plus drainage are usually sufficient as a base. In that case, it is enough to start the excavation work 2–3 days before the pool is delivered.

When the pool is lowered into the ground, the skimmer, inlets and lights are then connected. After this is done you can begin filling with water while backfilling the sides with mortar, which then forms concrete once it has fully cured. Refilling the pool takes about 1–2 days (if you have access to two water hoses).

Arbetskostnad och montering av pool

As we described above, the labor cost is influenced by a pool of several different parameters.
Among the factors that affect the price of installing a pool are:

  • Type of pool
A thermal pool takes longer to
    install than a PP pool

  • Conditions at the site
where the pool will be installed
High groundwater and unstable ground are
two factors that affect the installation time

  • Restoration of ground or
    paving/decking
We assist with restoring the ground after
installing your pool and help you build a wooden deck around the pool or lay tiles

How much does a pool cost per month?

  • Having your own pool increases quality of life and makes the home a more beautiful place; there is something special about open water beside the house even if it occupies a limited area.

Many who consider getting a pool want to know what it costs to have a pool installed and ready. However, there are also ongoing costs associated with owning a pool that are good to keep in mind.

For us at Pooltime it is important to be transparent about how we work and what the costs of a pool are so that you as a customer can make a well-informed purchasing decision based on facts. Our experience tells us that this approach also creates satisfied customers, which is very important to us.

So that you can keep track of what it costs to have a pool, we have done some calculations of the monthly running costs for a pool.

  • Monthly cost for heating a pool

The monthly cost of heating a 4 x 8 meter pool with a water temperature of 28 degrees is approximately 500 – 1,000 SEK per month during the swimming season when using a pool heat pump.

The exact cost depends on several factors, including the size of the pool, how warm you want the water to be, how well insulated the pool is, and whether you have a pool cover installed or not. The heating costs of your pool are also naturally affected by your electricity contract and the overall price of electricity.

  • Monthly cleaning cost

To be able to use and enjoy your pool, you need to have a clean pool.
The cost of cleaning your pool depends on the cleaning solution you choose and whether you have a pool cover installed or not.

It is difficult to give a general answer on the monthly cost of cleaning your pool because the cleaning solution you choose affects the price. But to give an indication of what the cleaning might cost, you can expect about 1,000 – 2,000 SEK per month during the swimming season.

Tips for lowering the monthly cost of your pool

Pool Roof

A pool enclosure is a good solution for keeping your pool's heating costs down. A pool enclosure prevents heat from the water from evaporating and instead keeps it under the pool enclosure, so your heating system does not have to work as hard to maintain the water temperature.

In other words, you avoid "heating the outdoors," as the old saying goes. Another advantage of a pool enclosure is that it prevents insects and leaves, pollen, and other debris from falling into the pool and contaminating the water, reducing the cost of cleaning the pool.

Another way to keep the ongoing cleaning costs per month for your pool down is to buy a pool robot or pool vacuum that automatically cleans the pool.
