Above-Ground Pool: Choose Base, Location and Size

An above-ground pool can provide plenty of swimming enjoyment with less ground work than an in-ground pool, but it still requires a level, load-bearing base. Size, placement, and maintenance determine how stable and easy to use the solution will be.

Place the pool correctly

Choose a level surface with distance from trees that shed leaves and from structures that create shade. Consider privacy, wind, sun, and how you will drain water during emptying or heavy rain.

Check local regulations and safety requirements before installation. Also make sure that electrical equipment and technical components can be placed in a dry, service-friendly location.

The base is crucial

Organic soil, roots, and soft areas should be removed. The base needs to be even, well-drained, and designed for the pool's weight. Small differences in level become noticeable when several tons of water are placed on the structure.

Choose shape and size based on use

A smaller round pool works well for cooling off and play, while a longer pool provides more space for swimming strokes. Also allow space for a ladder, filter, hoses, and a safe walkway.

Can an above-ground pool stand directly on grass?

It is rarely a sustainable solution. The ground can settle, vegetation can be damaged unevenly, and it becomes difficult to get the bottom level.

Does an above-ground pool need a pool cover?
